Tomatoes

Tomatoes for seedlings are planted in early December. We prepare a substrate for tomato seedlings, sow seeds there, water and keep under plastic wrap until the first seedlings appear within a week.

Water for watering tomato seedlings must be warm, with additional lighting. We do not turn off the lighting after 14:00 for the first 3 days.

The best temperature for tomato seedlings is 25 °C (day), +15 °C (night). The shoots have appeared, now for 5 days we do hardening, lowering the night temperature to 17 °C, and after 5 days we return everything as before.

In the cotyledon stage, it is necessary to carry out picking, and after 14 days, feed with minerals (1 teaspoon of fertilizer + 5 liters of water). In February, tomato seedlings are transplanted into beds with a vertical garter of stems. We water under the root, remove the stepsons. Pinching is done as soon as the plant is 1.5 m tall.

Cucumbers

In January, cucumbers are first planted for seedlings.

Here is one example of a 150 micron white film cucumber and flower film greenhouse.

Cucumber seeds must be germinated, after which they are sown in peat pots. The soil in the pots must be moistened. We cover all this with a film for 5 days, until the stairs appear. 11 hours a day, we additionally illuminate the plants.

For seedlings, the optimal temperature is +22-24 °С (day) and + 18 °С (night). Hardening is mandatory as soon as you see the first steps: for 2 days, lower the daytime temperature to +18 degrees and turn it back.

Feeding 2 times:

The first (2 real leaves) – 1 liter of complex fertilizer + 5 liters of water.

The second (after 10 days) – potassium nitrate 20 g + superphosphate 40 g + ammonium nitrate 30 g. Dilute all components in 10 liters of water.

Seedlings can be planted in February. The distance between the bushes is 40 cm. We water wisely, the soil should retain a loose structure. We tie it to the frame on the wallpaper grid.

Important: cucumbers should not be next to tomatoes!

Eggplants

In the first days of February, start planting eggplants.

Place the seeds in boxes with soil, water them lightly and keep them under a film for 12 days until the first sprouts appear. The daily rate of additional lighting is 12 hours.

Before the first steps, the temperature is + 23 °C (day), + 14 °C (night). Hardening is similar to tomatoes and cucumbers (see above).

Air humidity level 80%. In contrast to picking tomatoes, eggplants (stage 2 of the last leaves) are moved to a larger container. Do not damage the roots. It is necessary to feed 2 weeks after transplanting, followed by alternating minerals with organic matter. Fertilizer is the same for eggplants and cucumbers.

Eggplants are planted in the beds in April, with regular watering and loosening. We tie the stem (main) to the trellis, pinch the top.

Regardless of the season outside the window, in the conditions of the apartment it is nice to enjoy living plants, grown with love. In addition to indoor flowers, you can grow fresh vitamins in a pot on the windowsill: greens, vegetables with fruits and berries – cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, peppers, lemons, strawberries … And all this – at home, without chemicals and at any time year, even in summer, even in winter!

  • Vegetable and berry seedlings need space, so choose a larger pot, up to 40 cm in diameter and 20 cm high. The material of the vase can be any – plastic, clay, the main thing is that there are holes at the bottom for the drainage of excess moisture. If the pot is not new, and you have grown something in it before, it should be washed well, poured with boiling water and treated with a solution of potassium permanganate to protect the seedling from pests.
  • What kind of soil to plant a home garden in? It is better to buy soil mixture for potted plants, there are all the necessary substances for growth and development, as well as a minimized risk of infection by pests. You can prepare a mixture at home with your own hands from turf, peat and compost. If you have a plot of land fertilized with organic matter, then you can take the soil from there. Good drainage in the container for planting is important – expanded clay, pebbles. Its presence will allow the root system to breathe and protect it from rotting due to waterlogged soil.
  • It is necessary to choose special varieties of vegetables, the root system of which will be comfortable in a limited space.
  • An important condition is the ability of plants to self-pollinate – specially bred hybrids have such properties, and we choose them.
  • Take care of a sufficient amount of moisture and nutrition. It is best to water with settled warm water. Feed with liquid fertilizer once a week, as soon as the first four leaves appear. Biohumus is used as an organic fertilizer.
  • Good lighting is a necessary condition for the good development and fruiting of your garden: even the slightest shadow from a neighboring pot endangers the future harvest. If the lighting is not enough, you can illuminate artificially: LED lamps or LED strips with different spectrums (red, blue, white) are suitable.
  • Otherwise, the same rules as for street or greenhouse relatives: to speed up the pricking process, cover the pot with a film, not forgetting to moisten and warm the soil, regularly check the grown-up plant for the presence of diseases and pests, if necessary, disinfect it with special means.

If, due to lack of time, you want to simplify your task or stand out with an original and useful present, give a canned plant as a gift. Despite the prosaic name, such miracle pots will allow you to create a real mini garden and vegetable garden on the windowsill, grow cucumbers, tomatoes, arugula, rosemary, spinach, basil, daisies, forget-me-nots and other crops, and the bright design will lift your mood every time.
