Suzie’s Farm is home to a flock of around 500 pasture-raised chickens.
Our hens’ diet is 100% organic. They eat tons of sprouted grains, lots of Suzie’s Farm veggies (diverted from the compost pile) and as many bugs, grubs, seeds, and weeds that they can find in the fallow fields they call “home.” Their diet is supplemented with certified organic layer pellets, a protein rich blend containing organic corn, organic soy, organic wheat, organic peas, organic alfalfa, organic flax, and kelp. No GMO seed can be used for certified organic farming. The soy, wheat, and corn used in the chicken layer pellet feed is certified organic, NOT genetically modified.
Our chickens live the way a chicken wants to live: with space to roam in open fields, the opportunity to forage, taking dust baths as they please. They have a henhouse to go back to at night, where they may sleep, roost, and lay eggs. These ladies work hard for their happy life by helping us with pests and fertilizing the fields. Best of all, they provide us with the most delicious, nutritious, colorful, richly-yoked eggs we’ve ever seen! We observe that the color of the yolk changes through the seasons from a deep yellow to a bright red/orange, depending on the types of crops they are eating.
Once you’ve had these deeply nourishing eggs, there is no going back! Happy, well-fed chickens lay amazing eggs. You can purchase our eggs two ways. The first is to become a CSA member: we offer eggs to our CSA members through the Shareholder’s Store. The general public may purchase eggs at our Farm Stand on Sunset Ave. Get there early, supplies are limited and we sell out quickly!
